AMIDST THE DARK

Endings are always difficult to write. Whether that be in a movie or a piece of music, its hard to figure out a way to wrap up your story with a nice, neat little bow. “Dreaming of a Distant Star” serves as the grand finale of Amidst the Dark, where all of the themes and ideas presented culminate in a beautiful and powerful piece about staying true to your calling and chasing your dreams.

Anomaly is without a doubt the most production-heavy track in the whole album and really gave me a great opportunity to stretch my creative muscles and create not only one of the angriest tracks on the album, but also one of the angriest tracks I've ever produced.

If ‘Opportunity Awaits the Bold’ is the prologue, then ‘Don’t Let Me Go’ is Amidst the Dark’s first chapter. This is where the story itself, quite literally launches and solidifies the emotional core of the album as moving on from loss. The first chapter conveys the somber feeling that the hero has. He no longer feels like there’s a place for him on Earth. The haunting voice represents the memories of the life he used to have. The swelling brass and synths building towards the launch of the wanderer’s journey. As the rocket’s engines grow louder, the sounds of everything that came before fade to the background. Leaving only the sound of the fading rocket and a single, lonely violin.

Opportunity Awaits the Bold opens with an air of mystery and wonder. I tried to capture the awe that comes from staring up at crystal clear night sky and just being blown away from the sheer multitude of stars hanging up there. It’s hard not to think about the possibilities of what may be out there.
